Robertson Makes History In York

Neil Robertson, has become only the eighth player in the history of the game to win Snooker's Triple Crown of the Masters, the UK Championship and the World Championship. These remain the three most prestigious events in the Snooker calender despite the game having a heavy schedule in China currently. It is no coincidence that the most prestigious events are also the three that the BBC cover, because they are held within Britain. As this is Triple Crown of trophies is entirely based in Britain, it is no surprise to learn that Robertson is the first overseas player to achieve the feat.

However, it wasn't all Robertson in this final, and Selby played some brilliant Snooker in the first session starting with a break of 130 in the first frame. This form didn't let up as he raced into a 5-1 lead before the Australian could get a chance to get comfortable on the table. Robertson later conceded that in the opening session 'Mark was too good' for him, so when the end of session couldn't come soon enough for the man they call 'the Thunder from Down Under'.

A comeback was needed from Robertson and he did so in some style after being 6-3 down to Mark Selby after the opening session. He played what he called his 'best ever Snooker' to come back in the evening session and won seven out of  the eight frames to make it 10-7. Although he was helped by Selby who missed an easy pot on the black to square the frames at 8-8. The World number one proved why he is rated so, and showed the true spirit of a champion in coming back to win even though he was down and out at one stage.

With another trophy under his belt, the World number one is showing no signs of ending the tremendous form he has been showing this year. Robertson would certainly be eyeing up the Masters at Alexandra Palace in January as another Trophy to add to his collection. The runner-up Selby will be after revenge against Robertson should the meet in the Masters, Selby will not make the same mistakes he did on Sunday night.
