FIFA World Cup - Six Months To Go

There is now only six months to go until the FIFA World Cup finally arrives in Brazil. The stage is set, we know the 32 teams that will be in Brazil, what we don't know is where the matches will be played. The organization process has been a comedy of errors, leaving people worried if the stadiums will be ready in time. If there is one thing that the poor organization has shown us, it is that football fans can only focus on one badly organised World Cup at a time. Its been a long time since anybody mentioned the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Brazil has already admitted that it is struggling to get ready for the World Cup. Although six stadiums were ready for the Confederations Cup last summer, a further six need building. Last month the arena that was going to be the venue for the opening ceremony in Sao Paulo, killing two workmen. The Corinthians arena was due to be completed by December but is currently being cleared before being rebuilt again.

Although it getting the stadiums ready will be a push FIFA are showing no signs of helping or changing their plans. If we have learnt one thing from the planning of the next two World Cups, it is that FIFA are a very stubborn organization. Even the drugs testing facility has been a disaster in Brazil, in the fact that they don't have one at WADA standard. Many believe that having a WADA recognised drug testing lab should be a prerequisite for hosting a global event. Instead the lab being used is in Switzerland and samples will all be flown out from Brazil and back to Europe. The time this will take in transit means that players could play another game before results are retrieved from the lab in Switzerland.
The weather will obviously play are part in the World Cup on the whole and heat and humidity will play a huge part as it drains the energy of players in the last few minutes of the games. However, a factor that people haven't really spoken about is the torrential downpours that Brazil experiences in the areas near the Amazon. Do not be surprised if we see a situation alike the one in Donetsk in Euro 2012 where the game was rained off.
There are several problems beginning to rear their head with regards the 2014 World Cup. Although, it they will continue appear for the next six months, I can guarantee you a brilliant festival of football next Summer. The favourites will undoubtedly be Brazil and the home crowd will expect a strong performance from their team.
